I'd forgotten about the snuff taker, and that the dustman was described as "one of the old school" so was presumably nostalgic rather than contemporary at the time.

I do rather like the thought of my council local bin crew running around shouting "dust ahoy!" as they empty my recycling crate though.

Also, the adverts at the back of that book mention a "Trouble Wit" - I've not seen one of those acts since the 1980s. I wonder if you can still get the props.
