Not an old link, I'm afraid. It was this post from Daniel Simu:

I've done some experimenting, here's the "data":
- It's only when I'm viewing the Edge without logging in, on the iPad (using Safari)
- If I click on a vid link, it opens the YouTube app and the time embed doesn't activate
If I'm logged in to Edge (on the Pad, in Safari) the vids play in the page (without redirecting to the YouTube app) and the embedded time works fine
On my laptop, on both Firefox and Safari, when I'm not logged in to Edge clicking on a vid link opens a new tab for the YouTube URL and the embed works just fine.
I haven't tried any other browsers on the iPad.
I have a vague memory that I encountered this a while ago, assumed it was a YouTube app issue (It's not a great app - piss poor user interface IMO), and just decided to keep adding the embed note.
Thanks for the time you put in to dealing with YouTube vagaries - a heroic battle, to be sure! My least favorite bit of Googleness is that sometimes I can post YouTube comments and sometimes I can't, and for the life of me I can't work out what the difference is. I've come to the only rational conclusion - it's random, and has been specifically designed to annoy me personally.
